CEBU WALK: Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral

The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, located along P. Zamora St., Cebu City, is just less than or the most is 5 minutes walk away from Basilica Minore del Santo Nino. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolotan Archdiocese of Cebu.
The construction took long due to frequent interruptions suchs as the death of the incumbent bishop, lack of funds, and other unexpected events.
the architectural is squat and with thick walls to withstand typhoons and other natural calamities. The church was once ruined by the Allied bombing during the World War II with only the belfry, the facade, and the walls as the remains of the church.

In 1982 a mausoleum was built at the back which serves as a final resting place for the remains of Cebu Bishops and clergy.
Situated just next to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is the Cebu Cathedral Museum. The building itself is one of the few extant structures in the city that was totally spared from the ravages of world war II. Built in the early 1900's during the incumbent of Cebu Bishop Santos Gomez Maranon. It houses photographs and illustrations about the growth of Catholic faith in Cebu and memorabilias of Cardinal Ricardo Vidal and collection of statues. It also exhibits tabernacle, gradas, and altar panels made of wood encased in etched silver.
